Worth being precise about it: this is quarry stone rather than a naturally rounded river gravel like our Del Rio or Noiyo, so it comes out of a rock face instead of an alluvial deposit. The trade sells it as pea gravel and buyers search for it that way, and as a granite pea gravel it is harder wearing than the soft sedimentary tans it sits next to on a color board.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe color is what makes it worth specifying. A soft beige base carries slate gray speckling and warm pink through it, so it reads as a warm neutral from across a yard and resolves into three colors underfoot. That is why it places so easily: it sits against stucco, brick, timber and green planting without committing the whole scheme to one tone, which a flat tan gravel cannot do.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 3\/8 inch it is comfortable to walk on and easy to rake level, so beige pea gravel of this grade gets used for dog runs and pet areas as often as for open ground cover. A coarser 3\/4 inch grade of the same stone is available on request.
