Not all sand is really sand, a lot of sand materials are wash rock fines, these will compact down into very hard surfaces. These sand materials have been washed clean of silt and soil. Sand colors vary by regional quarry considerations from white off-white to silver grey or to tan and with black granules. While the color of the sand may vary from region to region the character of the sand remains the same through standardized specifications for the production process regarding material size and washing of the sand.
