Rip Rap 1/4 Ton & 1/2 Ton Class (Slope Backing Rock)

Rip rap and slope backing rock is sold by the strength and quality of the rock, not by color. Rock for erosion and flood control has to be very hard. Some sellers offer soft rock that would not pass inspection on a standard engineering project, taking advantage of the emergency nature of flood control work.

Earth Stone Rock only sells very dense CalTrans or ADOT approved hard rock from approved granite, basalt or similar hard rock quarries. Before you spend money on rip rap and backing material, make sure the rock has the strength to last a lifetime of wear against water and weather.

OVERVIEW

Sold by the ton. Pick the rock class for your job, then order the number of tons you need; each ton is 2,000 lb of rock in that class. 1/4 ton class rocks weigh roughly 500 lb each and 1/2 ton class rocks roughly 1,000 lb each. These are the smaller classes in our rip rap range, a practical choice for lining drainage channels and swales, backing small slopes and protecting culvert outlets. Step up to the 1/2 ton class where water runs faster or the slope is steeper.
