Fuentes y Mini Estanques Aquascape

A fountain or mini pond gives you moving water without excavating a pond. The basin, the pump and the decorative piece all have to agree, so check the reservoir capacity and the weight of the piece before ordering.

A fountain is three things, not one

Underneath every feature in this group there is a reservoir, a pump and a decorative piece, and they have to be chosen together. The AquaBasin reservoirs and basins hide the water and the pump below grade, which is what makes a fountain safe around children and cheap to evaporate from. The decorative piece sits on top of it. Get the basin too small and the pump runs dry on a windy afternoon; get the pump wrong and the column either dribbles or throws water clear of the gravel. The recommended basin and pump are shown under Specifications where Aquascape publishes them, so check those before pairing a column with a reservoir.

Basalt, bowls or a stacked slate wall?

A basalt column is a drilled stone with water welling from the top and running down the face, and it reads as natural. Aquascape offers them in natural stone and in a faux version cast to the same shape, so check the packaged weight under Specifications where the piece shows it, rather than assuming. A fountain bowl or urn is formal, sits above grade and is the easiest to place on an existing patio. A stacked slate wall is a vertical sheet of water and is the loudest of the three for a given pump, which is what you want against road noise.

Mini ponds and container water gardens

The AquaGarden mini pond kits are the smallest entry into the range: a self contained container feature with its own filtration and pump, which can hold plants and in some setups a few small fish. They suit a patio, a balcony or a small courtyard where excavation is not an option, and they are the sensible way to find out whether you enjoy keeping water before committing to a dug pond. Everything in them is standard Aquascape equipment, so the treatments and plant care from the rest of this range apply.

Weight, freight and the off season

The stone sets are heavy. Natural basalt columns and the larger bowls ship by truck and are quoted for freight before the order is placed, and you want a plan for moving the piece from the pallet to its spot before it arrives. For the off season, the fountain covers in this group are there because water left standing in a bowl through a freeze is what cracks it. Draining the basin and covering the piece is the usual routine in any climate that freezes.

Preguntas Frecuentes

No. These features run on a hidden basin rather than an excavated pond. The water recirculates from a reservoir set below grade, so there is no open water and no pond to maintain.

The reservoir that sits under a fountain. It holds the water and the pump below grade and carries the weight of the decorative piece above it, so all you see is gravel and the feature itself.

The column is drilled through its length. A pump in the basin below pushes water up the hole, it wells out at the top and runs down the face, then drains back through the gravel into the reservoir to be used again.

The faux columns are cast rather than cut. Weight varies by piece and is shown under Specifications where Aquascape publishes it, so check that figure or call us, because it decides both the freight and how you get the piece into position.

Water standing in a bowl or basin through a freeze is what cracks stone and concrete. The usual routine is to drain it, pull the pump and fit one of the protective fountain covers in this group.

A small decorative piece that sits at the edge of an existing pond and returns water to it, adding sound and surface movement. It runs off its own small pump or off a tee in the existing return line.

The complete fountain and mini pond kits include the pump where the Aquascape parts list for that kit names one. Decorative pieces sold on their own do not, so check that parts list before ordering.
